Our Story
A community built on respect, discipline, and the pursuit of excellence through Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.
Our Mission
At Hillsborough BJJ, we ensure you will receive well-rounded, streetwise self-defense skills that work. To achieve this, we combine the greatest benefits of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Submission Wrestling, and Judo.
Hillsborough BJJ is motivated by a continual improvement of ourselves and our Jiu-Jitsu. We make sure that every member of our Jiu-Jitsu family feels welcome and a part of the group. Without our students, our school would mean nothing.
We strive to have the best Jiu-Jitsu that NJ has to offer — whether for self-defense, sport, or whatever your personal reason may be.
FAQ
Are classes just for men?
Classes at HBJJ are mixed with both men and women, plus a separate kids program. We ensure everyone who walks in feels comfortable and welcome.
Am I too old to start training?
Our average adult student age is 30 — with many in their 40s, 50s, and even 60s. BJJ can be trained safely regardless of your starting point.
What do I need for my first class?
Just bring shorts and a t-shirt. No special equipment needed. Show up ready to have fun and learn.
How often should I train?
Completely up to you. Most students come 2–3 times per week. We just recommend consistency — whatever that means for your life and schedule.
How long does it take to get a black belt?
On average, 8–12 years of consistent training. The journey itself is the reward — each belt represents real growth as a person and martial artist.
